Estimating for Builders. No more Paper Plans and get More Work Done
By Enabliser Greg
It is amazing how technology has changed the age old art of Estimating. The days of Slide Rulers and pencils are gone. Manually scaling each dimension, measuring each dimension, counting quantities, lengths, areas, transferring the numbers to your estimate and calculating, keeping track of what is completed so nothing is missed – they’re things of the past we can forget. And checking it carefully too, as errors cost big money. Drawings for Estimating have gone electronic and paperless, and there are great advantages. The horse and buggy era for estimating is over. It is not efficient any more.
With drawings gone paperless, if you want to take-off quantities from a plan all you have to do is get a soft copy, save it on your computer and open up the On Screen Take-off window.
This lets you take off dimensions and quantities with ease: another example of real, measurable benefits from automation – taking over all those tedious manual activities. There are contractors who advise a 50% increase in their work throughput – they can do twice the number of quotes.
Scale the plan and off you go. You can zoom in and out, update and compare revisions, automatically highlight what has been measured.
You can use your Take-Off application as a stand-alone product, integrate it with Microsoft Excel® or use it in conjunction with Sage 300 CRE Estimating.
It’s easy. Why use the old, slow, familiar way when it no longer makes sense?
